About

Eileen Casey is a designer from Ireland, currently living in upstate NY – where at least there is plenty of sweater weather. She has been knitting since she was 5 and couldn’t imagine life without needles in hand – past projects bring memories of events and junctures in life back to her as vividly as certain scents do for others. Right now she tries to fit her knitting and designing around looking after her two preteen daughters – secretly hoping that soon they will be able to do the sample knits for her!

She was the Knitwear Designer at About.com for their knitting site from 2010 to 2011, and in 2011 established her own pattern line.

Experience:
Eileen was steeped in the Irish knitting tradition from and early age, and her first prize-winning design (at the 2004 New York State Fair) was a cabled Aran sweater.

Since then she has won prizes every year she has entered the New York State Fair, including the Joan L. Dobson Memorial Award for Excellence in Knitting, twice.

Prior to joining About.com (and starting her family), she worked in a yarn store and found her niche there in custom designing patterns for individual clients, as well as teaching knitting techniques to knitters of all levels.

Eileen is part of the KnitPicks Independent Designer Partnership, she has designed for Universal Yarns and her patterns have appeared in Quick and Simple Knits for Babies and Children and Interweave Knits.  She also teaches knitting classes to students of all skill levels at JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts in New Hartford, NY.
